Pep Rally - Great Day to be a Hawk!

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

September 26th, 2023 – The time has come again to send our Hawk athletes to one of the most important competitions amongst international schools: ISSL. To mark that, EABH hosted its traditional pep-rally. The full population of EABH migrated to the gym to give a special goodbye to our Basketball and Soccer players who will travel tomorrow to ISSL. Athletes, coaches, and press were all commemorated as the whole school celebrated the EABH spirit.

All the athletes and coaches were crowded within one room minutes before the pep rally began. Due to the heatwave Belo Horizonte is experiencing, the room was incredibly hot and everyone was sweating; discomfort, however, did not break the Hawks’s spirit. There was cheering, laughing, and a beautiful rendition of Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston. One thing was very clear: each and every individual was filled with excitement for the upcoming tournament.

Unlike other pep rallies, this one was more contained than usual; athletes ranin one line together instead of individually having their names called out and completando a lap around the hangar. Another change from the last pep rally is that the Lower School cheerleaders have not only multiplied, but they can all do tricks now. EABH was delighted to see them perform dances, splits, and pyramids.

After the cheerleaders finished their performance, all captains were called out to give speeches. The captains of the Lady Hawks this year are Anna Flavia Escobar, Annie Santos, and Lydia Pfile. Lydia honors her brother's legacy: Lincoln Pfile was also the captain of the basketball team just last year, and is dearly missed by the Hawks.

Next, the boy teams' captains were introduced:Pedro Almeida, Pedro Jorge, and Edward Mason. Edward, best known as Ted, is not only captain of both the soccer and basketball teams, but has been at EABH since before first grade. His speech was about how he is honored to be a captain of both teams and an EABH student alike.

The EABH tradition stood strong as the event finalized with the iconic “We will Hawk you”. The athletes promised to do their best to come back with other golds. It is certain that they are overjoyed to start the ISSL season tomorrow and plan to make EABH proud. Don’t forget to stay tuned to the Daily Hawk for all updates on the ISSL, and Go Hawks!
