Opinion: Hunter Woodhall

Born with a congenital condition that led to the amputation of both legs as a child, Hunter was faced with many challenges from an early age. But never let those obstacles stand against his passion for track. In 2016 homemade his paralympic debut in Rio, winning silver in the 200m and bronze in 400m. Fast flowered to the 2024 paris paralympics games, and hunter sights were set even higher…he wanted gold.

The path to his first paralympic title was anything but smooth. Before the world championships, a major setback struck his prosthetic leg broke right before the big race, ultimately forcing him to withdraw from the competition. What could have been a devastating blow only fueled Hunter's  determination. He trained harder than ever before, and in Paris, he won the 400m race in a stunning 46.36 seconds, defeating world record holder johannas floors.

Beyond his athletic success, Hunter's journey is enriched by his partnership with olympian Tara Davis Woodhall, who won gold in the women's long jump at the same stadium. The two, who met as teenagers at a track meet, have supported each other through the highs and lows of their careers. Dubbed the “golden couple” of paris games, their relationship not only fuels their professional growth. They train together daily, pushing each other to new heights.

As they look forward to the 2028 olympic and paralympic games in los angeles, hunter and tara are determined to continue their legacy on home soil. For Hunter, Paris marked the realization of a lifelong dream, but his story is far from finished. His unwavering determination, coupled with the loved ones, proves that no challenge is insurmountable.
